National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Limited is an Indian public sector undertaking (PSU) that explores iron ore, copper, rock phosphate, limestone, dolomite, gypsum, bentonite, magnesite, diamond, tin, tungsten, graphite, and coal. It is the largest producer of iron ore in India, producing over 40 million tons per annum (MTPA) from its major iron producing units. NMDC operates mechanized iron ore mines in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, and also operates a mechanized diamond mine at Panna, Madhya Pradesh.
NMDC is a Navratna PSE under the Ministry of Steel and one of the most profitable PSEs of the Government of India. All of NMDC mining complexes have been rated 5 Star by Indian Bureau of Mines, Ministry of Mines, which is a testimony to its scientific and sustainable mining practices.
NMDC’s mission is to maintain its leadership as the largest iron ore producer in India, while establishing itself as a quality steel producer and expanding business by acquiring and operating various iron ore, coal and other mineral assets in India and abroad.
