KRBL Limited, or Khushi Ram Behari Lal Limited, is an Indian rice processing and exporting company that is the world’s largest rice miller. It was founded in 1889 in Lyallpur, Punjab, British India, and is India’s first integrated rice company. KRBL exports rice to over 80 countries, with about 36% of its export revenue coming from the Middle East countries, as of 2021. KRBL is best known for its India Gate brand of basmati rice, which is the largest selling rice brand in India.
KRBL operates through two segments: Agri and Energy. The Agri segment supplies rice, Furfural, seed, bran and bran oil. The Energy segment comprises of power generation from wind turbine, husk-based power plant and solar power plant. KRBL also offers its rice under a range of other brands, including Nur Jahan, Telephone, Train, Unity, Lotus, Lion, Doon, Aarati, Quilada, Al Wisam, Granny’s Kitchen, Necklace, Bemisal and Indian Farm.
KRBL has fully integrated operations in every aspect of basmati value chain, right from seed development, contract farming, procurement of paddy, storage, processing, packaging, branding and marketing. KRBL also produces milling by-products like bran oil, furfural, rice bran, and de-oiled cakes.
