Nestle is the world’s largest food and beverage company, with over 2,000 brands and a global presence. The company was founded in 1866 when Henri Nestle developed a breakthrough baby food in 1867. In 1905, the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company merged with Nestle to form the Nestle Group. Today, Nestle has around 275,000 employees and sells products in 188 countries.
In 2010, Nestle purchased Kraft Foods’ frozen-pizza business in the U.S. and Canada for $3.7 billion, entering the frozen-pizza market. In 2021, Nestle was named in a class action lawsuit filed by eight former child slaves from Mali who alleged that the company aided and abetted their enslavement on cocoa plantations in Ivory Coast. In 2015, the Government of Delhi banned Nestle India’s instant noodles product “Maggi Noodles” for 15 days after lead and monosodium glutamate were found to be beyond permissible limits.
