NHPC Limited (NSE: NHPC) is a Government of India company that generates and sells bulk power to power utilities. It also provides project management, construction contracts, consultancy services, and power trading. NHPC is one of India’s largest hydroelectric power developers, with 25 power stations across 13 states and an installed capacity of 7,097 MW. The company’s power stations include Salal, Dulhasti, Kishanganga, Nimoo Bazgo, Chutak, Baira Siul, Tanakpur, Dhauliganga, Rangit, Loktak, Indira Saga, Chamera – I, Uri – I, Chamera – II, and Omkareshwa.
NHPC was incorporated on November 7, 1975 as a private limited company called National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Pvt Ltd. The word “private” was removed on September 18, 1976, and the company became a public limited company on April 2, 1986. The name was changed to NHPC Limited on March 28, 2008.
